Bad run? So what
I had a bad run today. I don’t say that often, but it was just bad. That, though, doesn’t matter. The fact that I put it in my head before the run that it was going to be a bad run made it even worse.
I’m not going to use the excuse of not feeling well this week, but when has the first run after being under the weather been good? Never.
I could dwell on today’s run, but I’m not. The only reason I’m writing about it is to have documentation of a bad run turned even worse by my own thoughts.
My Twitter pal Steena, now blogging at Finding my happy pace, asked me today, “Is it possible to will all runs good runs?”
I wish it was that easy, but I’m beginning to realize that it’s very easy to think your way into a bad run. When I think about the few bad runs I’ve had, it all starts with thoughts about how bad the run is going.
The best thing to do is get the hell over it and move on to the next run. And that’s what I’m ready to do.

To follow up from yesterday’s post about my new commenting system, here is something you can do if you log in to your WordPress account for your name and website to show up. Head to intensedebate.com and click on “Log in Here” in the upper right hand corner. Then click “Log in with your WordPress account.”
After you log in, click on the “Profile” link on the left hand side of the page. From there you can change your display name to how you want it appear on comments. You can also put your website on this page. If you want to add additional information about yourself, such as a Twitter account, click on “Services.”
If you click on someone’s photos in the comments section, it will then show the website. If you click on a name, you can then find the other links they’ve added.
I may be missing a detail or two about this, but it’s a learning process. Thanks to everyone who has pointed a few things out to me. Please let me know if you have questions or problems! I am liking this system so far and like being able to respond to comments more directly.

When I asked, with so few characters to work with on Twitter, I was thinking about my 3rd bad run in a row last night. As I headed out the door I said, "Ugh, this is probably going to suck again", just because my last two had been bad. And the last two were bad by surprise. I do wonder if it would have sucked so bad without thinking that first. Or if thinking that maybe puts more pressure on the run? Something like that?
The whole mental part of running is crazy.
If you follow my instructions above, you can get rid of freak4fitness, and it will change on previous comments (I think). Re: your comment - I run better when I stop thinking, but when the mind takes over, watch out. I'm running watchless tomorrow and just running for the sake of running. I see you got your name changed, but not the website. Instead of putting it in the description on Instant Debate, you should click on the Add Blog/Website link and then add your site in the Blog URL area. When you do that, your name will then hyperlink to your blog and not the random Intense Debate "profile."
I think sucky runs are part of the process. I call them character-building runs. Hopefully they don't happen too often, though!
Thanks for the tips on the comment stuff. Getting all fancy now!
I've written about character-building runs quite a bit. Getting sick in the middle of marathon training and how I handle it definitely helps define me as a runner.
Looks like you figured things out with the name-changing. You name now links to your blog and a link shows up when hovering over your photo! And you're probably getting two emails from me with this comment because I'm still trying to figure this out too. I left the comment when I wasn't logged in.
