EverStride-sponsored #runchat set

I have some family obligation this week (I’ll have a post on that very soon), so Scott from iRunnerBlog has written a post about this Sunday’s #runchat, which I will be hosting solo as Scott will be traveling back from the Boulder Half Marathon. Thanks to Scott for doing this for me. I look forward to chatting with everyone this Sunday at 8 p.m. ET!

Another great #runchat is planned for this Sunday at 8 p.m. ET. Come join us as we bring together the runners of twitter to talk about all things running. This week our killer sponsor is EverStride.

How to Enter: Everyone who participates in the #runchat this weekend will be entered, at the end of the #runchat we will use random.org to select a winner; it is that simple to win!

To increase your odds of winning follow @Ever_Stride on Twitter and leave a comment below that you have done so for an entry.

Like them on Facebook and comment on their wall then leave a comment below saying that you have done so and we will increase your entry again.

The Gear: For those that participate in the #runchat you will be entered into the giveaway for ultimate EverStride runners kit, which includes essentials for runners: Foot Cream, Fungus Defense and the so awesome Chafe Stick.

I’ve said in many past posts that it is so, so important to take care of the feet that take care of you, kinda like Isotoners and Dan Marino. The EverStride products will ensure that you can continue to perform at a high level with healthy skin and feet.

The Foot Cream is a high performance conditioning foot cream for men and women with a unique blend of vitamins and oils that penetrates deep into the skin to help the problem.

The reality is your feet could get jacked up and nasty and for that you have the Fungus Defense which kills germs that can cause fungal infections and make things way too uncomfortable.

Finally we have the the important Chafe Stick; this stick helps athletes brace the elements of their surroundings! In hot, humid or cold weather this unique formula helps guard against friction on your feet, chest, thighs and other affected areas. This non-greasy sport stick helps men and women protect their skin from the rubbing of socks, sneakers, sandals, clothing and more that cause red irritations while putting your skin to work.

The #runchat Details: beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 27 @RunningBecause will ask a running-related question using Twitter hashtag #runchat. You answer; you re-tweet other people’s answers; you respond to other people’s answers. If you’re not familiar with Twitter, it’s really that simple.

The #runchat will last from 8-9 p.m. ET. We’ll post a new question every 5-10 minutes, depending on the nature of the conversations going on. (All questions will come from David (@RunningBecause) this week; I will be away traveling back from the Boulder Half Marathon.)

Also, here are some helpful tips for having the best #runchat experience:

  • TweetDeck or Hootsuite, create a new column with the #runchat tag to follow along
  • TweetChat has been running slowly the past few weeks so we can not endorse this as the most reliable option but if you do use it just sign in to that site with your Twitter account, put in the tag #runchat, you can join in the conversation without even having to retype #runchat
  • web-based Twitter, create a new saved search with #runchat.

No matter how you follow along, please use the hashtag #runchat in each of your posts so we can follow all of the

Go follow @Ever_Stride and like them on Facebook and win!

Hope to see you at #runchat, if you have any questions just put them in the comments section below.

Next #runchat is Jan. 23

Mark your Twitter calendars for the next #runchat for 8 p.m. ET this Sunday. This week Scott (@iRunnerBlog) and I are pleased to announce EverStride as the sponsor. Simply by taking part in #runchat this week you’ll have a chance to win a runners kit from EverStride, complete with Foot Cream, Fungus Defense and the Chafe Stick.

For complete details on the giveaway and how to be entered to win, check out Scott’s entry here. If you’re unfamiliar with #runchat or need a refresher on what it is, check out my #runchat page here.

Please note that in the past two #runchat sessions we’ve had some trouble with TweetChat not updating in real time. I highly recommend using TweetDeck or HootSuite. If you want to filter out posts from me and Scott, feel free to follow my #runchat moderators list and import that column. By doing that you can see our questions easier.

Wanted: #runchat questions

#runchat, Twitter, runningIn mid-2010, Scott with iRunnerBlog.com and I launched #runchat — a simple hour-long Q&A on Twitter about running. The response was fantastic. After a few growing pains and rearranging of when the chat is, we now do #runchat twice a month — the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 8 p.m. ET.

Now that we’re several months into it, we want #runchat to be a go-to place for runners on Twitter. And I mean all runners — whether you’re just starting out with running your first few miles or if you’re a seasoned marathoner or a race winner, we want the chat to be a community for everyone. All shapes, sizes, colors and experiences welcome.

For #runchat to remain successful and to grow, we want your help. Scott and I want to know: what questions would you like to see featured on #runchat? If there are questions you’d like to chat about with other runners, this is your chance to speak up!

POM, Twitter, #runchatTo submit a question, all you have to do is leave a question in the comments section below. If you’re on Twitter, please leave your screen name so we can give you a shout-out when/if your question is asked in future #runchat sessions. For every question that is submitted, you will be entered to win a case of POM Wonderful juice. A case consists of 8 8-ounce bottles of pomegranate juice — great for drinking and cooking.

A winner will be chosen using the Random Number Generator from random.org at 8 p.m. ET Friday, Jan. 7. You may enter up to two questions — each question left as a comment counts as one entry. Multiple questions in one comment count as only one entry. Please do not repeat questions from other users. Questions from previous #runchat sessions are accepted. Also, please leave a valid email address so I can contact you regarding the giveaway.

JAN. 4 UPDATE!
The giveaways for #runchat don’t stop here. Check out Scott’s post here on a giveaway for this week’s #runchat, sponsored by Road ID.

Need sunglasses? Join us during #runchat

At 8 p.m. ET Sunday, Scott from iRunnerBlog and I have an awesome giveaway for #runchat on Twitter from Ryders Eyewear — a pair of VTX Sunglasses. To be entered to win, all you have to do is take part in #runchat, a twice-a-month chat all about running moderated by me and Scott.

The VTX from Ryders feature an interchangeable lens system that allows for versatility as conditions and activities change. The ultra-lightweight frames and anti-slip, hydrophilic nose pads keep them secure, while scratch-resistant lenses provide 100 percent UVA, B and C protection.

If you’re unfamiliar with #runchat, here are the details. At 8 p.m. ET Sunday, Dec. 12, Scott and I will begin asking running-related questions on Twitter using the #runchat tag. Then the conversations just go. Answer our questions; re-tweet our questions if you’d like; re-tweet other people’s answers that you like; and feed off other people’s responses to create conversations. That’s all. Really. It’s that simple.

Scott and I both use TweetChat to follow the conversations — that site makes it really easy to follow along. You can also create a #runchat column in HootSuite or TweetDeck, or create a #runchat saved search on regular old-fashioned Twitter. (Is Twitter old enough for something to be old-fashion yet?) Whatever you use, use the #runchat tag in each of your posts so we can follow the responses and to be eligible to win the sunglasses.

#runchat lasts an hour. We’ll post a new question every 5-10 minutes, depending on the nature of the conversations. All “official” questions will come from Scott (@iRunnerBlog) and me (@RunningBecause).

* I often forget to blog about #runchat that now officially happens the second and fourth Sunday of the month. It’s an awesome event that me and Scott from iRunnerblog started earlier this summer to have conversations about anything and everything related to running. We’re happy to announce that this weekend’s #runchat will have an event giveaway thanks to the kind people at Brooks. Visit Scott’s site to find out more about the contest, and be sure to log onto to Twitter at 8 p.m. ET Sunday to join in on the conversation. Be there … or be out running.

* It’s fall … but don’t tell the 90 degree temperatures that. I have a feeling that sometime in the next few weeks we’re going to snap our fingers and have that feeling of going straight from summer to early winter. I just hope it’s nice and cool for the marathon. The weather for this weekend’s Virginia 10 Miler isn’t looking too bad with temperatures probably close to 70 at the start.

* My legs are really tired this week. Thankfully it was a built-in recovery week anyway. Not sure how this will impact what I do Saturday; I’m just glad that I’m cutting the miles back this week. Last week I did fine pushing through it, but there’s no way I have that willpower this week, except come race day.

* The summer heat and extra sweat seems to be taking a toll on my shoes much more than I’d like. They still have some decent mileage left in them, and alternating between two pairs helps, but I am going to need to buy a pair for the Richmond Marathon. Not that I’m complaining. Who doesn’t love new shoes? It’s just rough on the wallet.

* I reached the final hole in one of my belts this week. It was on the third hole at the beginning of the year. I have to make sure that I don’t use that as an excuse to go eat like mad for the next week.

* For future miscellaneous posts, I’m just going to put the number post it is. No real reason; it’s just a change I wanted to make.

* I ran 10 miles tonight, which isn’t all that significant, but it is the first solo double digit run since last summer. All my 10-mile or more runs this year have been with my friend Travis. It was odd, but I pushed myself through the hills and the heat and got it done.

* I will do a guess-my-time contest for my 5-mile race this Saturday. I’ll have details about that on Friday.

* The next #runchat on Twitter is at 8 p.m (ET) tomorrow (Thursday) with Scott from iRunnerBlog.com. The topic: injuries. The format will be slightly different. We’ll give everyone a few minutes to introduce themselves and then post the first question a few minutes after 8. We will be asking questions for about 45 minutes or so. And then for the last 5 minutes or so, we’ll open up the questioning for everyone to ask questions and seek advice. We hope that everyone participating gets something out of it. Injuries are part of running and we can all learn from others.

Shoes, good deals and birthdays

I am often called “crazy” because I run. “That’s just crazy.” “I can’t believe you did that; that’s crazy.”

Well, us crazy runners are just like everybody else — we love a good deal. My wife laughs at me because I hate to pay more than $10 for a shirt or $15 for pants — even that’s a stretch. And when it comes to running, I love a good deal. And during last night’s second #runchat on Twitter it appears that nobody else likes to pay “regular” price for anything.

Some sites that were shared:

In addition to talking about good deals and how much running costs (not including races), #runchat participants discussed their favorite shoes (or the lack thereof), shorts and shirts, among other things. I heard of several brands for the first time. There was also a lot of birthday talk after the chat ended — I mentioned my birthday is next week and apparently it’s a highly popular week for birthdays. The discussion of money became such a hot topic that I didn’t get around to many of the planned questions.

Thanks to everyone who took part last night. It was quite a challenge keeping up with things without Scott from iRunnerBlog, who is on vacation in Iceland right now. Scott and I will talk once he gets back about when the next #runchat will be. We’ll post information on both our sites as well as Twitter once we figure that out.

#runchat II

At 8 p.m. ET Thursday, I will flying solo for moderating the second #runchat on Twitter as Scott with iRunnerBlog is on vacation in currently always-daylight Iceland. (Read his blog post here on a preview of that trip.)

For this week’s #runchat, I will be asking questions about gear (shoes, clothing, GPS watches, etc.). If you have any ideas or suggestions for comments, drop a message on my Contact page by 7 p.m. Thursday. While I do have questions in mind, the questions will be altered depending on the current conversation and any suggestions that come along.

Last week’s turnout was awesome — I hope to “see” you there! I will post the first question at 8 p.m.
