3 things: Luck, PRs, Hail

1. I have found 3 4-leaf clovers this spring. Don’t call me lucky though - I find them all the time. And no, I’m not actively searching them out. It’s an odd thing with me that started years ago. I just spot them very easily for some reason.

2. It’s kind of ridiculous that my 10k PR isn’t under 48 minutes, but I’ve never had an opportunity to race a 10k in prime shape. My 10k experiences have been at odd times of my training that haven’t translated into times that I think I can do. I don’t know Sunday’s course all that well, but I feel like there’s no reason I can’t go to Richmond at the Carytown 10k and knock a minute off my PR.

3. Crazy weather has really cramped my style this week, including hail.

I’ve had much the same experience with 10k races. Actually, the only 10k race I’ve ever done was one on trails, so it wasn’t particularly fast. I’ll be doing that same race again in 2 weeks, but I’ll have to keep my eye out for a 10k on the roads where I can really see what I’m capable of.

I think that 10ks are a great distance for a training race. It’s a very intimidating distance. Have fun at your race!

I think you have a great shot at a PR this weekend. The course is not as flat as the race organizers would have us believe - there are a couple good climbs along the way, particularly at the turnaround on Libbie. Grove is rolling and has some down as well as up. Anyway, none of this will seem like much to you compared to Beford! Just don’t expect it to be as flat as Monument…

I remember that area fairly well. I’m more worried about the unevenness in the road more than anything. I think the hills will actually give me a better race performance than the extreme flatness of Monument.

Interesting. I also prefer some hills to total flatness. Variety is the spice of life. ;-)
