So many things happened last week. Falling. A solid 5-mile negative split run. A nice, relaxing long run.
Bridge in the Lynchburg Half Marathon that crosses the James River.
And I signed up for the Lynchburg Half Marathon.
The one that has a huge hill in it that I’ve cursed two years in a row. Not the flat friendly half that I revisited in last week’s “Lost Files” post. That version no longer exists, much to my displeasure.
Similar to every time I’ve ever done this race, this is not a “race.” At this point in my training, it’s more of a test.
My ultimate goal is to run this at a pace that would put me between 3:40-3:45 for the marathon. That’s 8:23-8:35 per mile.
Last year I pretty much did that. The year before was awful.
Third time is a charm, right? And with this being my fourth half marathon this year, all in varying conditions bringing completely different experiences, I enter this weekend with a “go with the flow” approach.
If I feel good, I’ll push it; if I don’t, I’ll back off. It’s one of those races I don’t want to dwell on for long, whether good or bad.

Oh! Cool! This Saturday?! It still counts as spontaneous racing, which is usually a good thing! Good luck with your test race!
It sorta seems spontaneous, but it’s actually not. I had planned to do this for a while, but was just making sure that my work schedule and a few other things worked out before signing up.
